Parenting is another choice you have for your unplanned pregnancy. In the midst of overwhelming emotions and uncertainty, it’s important to remember that just because a pregnancy is unplanned doesn’t mean parenting isn’t an option. Couples who are planning on getting pregnant also can feel overwhelmed once it actually happens, so know you’re in good company if you are, too.
Am I Ready to Be a Parent?
If you’re wondering if you have what it takes to be a parent, you’re likely more prepared and equipped than you think. It’s important to consider the following questions as you process this option:
- What kind of support system do you have?
- Does your partner want to be involved?
- Do you have your parents’ support?
- Will you have a childcare option while you’re at work or school?
- Will you need to find new housing?
While it might feel more overwhelming to answer those questions, this will help you assess the support you already have and what other support you may need.
At Pregnancy Care Center, we offer parenting classes and material resources to help ease the financial burden of parenting and help you feel equipped and ready to take on this new role. You’ll have the opportunity for a mentoring relationship as well with one of our parenting coaches who can help you navigate the road ahead.
Our parenting classes cover topics like:
- Preparing for birth
- Labor and delivery
- Carseat safety
- And more!
As you attend classes, you’ll have the opportunity to earn “points” you can spend in our supply room. We keep it stocked with the essentials like diapers, baby & maternity clothes, car seats, cribs, bassinets, formula, bottles, and more. Parenting can present financial challenges and that shouldn’t be a hindrance for any woman or couple.
